Lymph is a clear, protein-rich fluid containing white blood cells, cellular waste and sometimes fats. Why it’s important: Fluid balance – prevents swelling by returning excess fluid to circulation Immune defence – carries white blood cells and filters harmful substances Waste clearance – removes toxins, debris and metabolic by-products How it moves without a pump: Unlike your blood, lymph has no pump like the heart – it relies on muscle contractions, movement, breathing and external stimulation (like MLD) to keep it flowing. If it becomes sluggish or overloaded, you may notice swelling, puffiness, slower recovery from injuries, or increased fatigue.
